Created for Connection
An Introduction to strengthening attachment bonds between adults for whom faith and scripture are foundational.
We will have a variety of adventures in addition to a Saturday workshop detailed below. Hiking, kayaking, massages and free time with your significant other.
Speaker: Rev. Michael T. Clifford S.T.M., L.M.F.T., Certified Emotion Focused Therapist
"Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love."--1 John 4:8
Are you looking to enrich a healthy relationship, revitalize a tired one, or rescue one gone awry? Do you yearn to grow closer to God, and to further incorporate Him and His teachings into your marriage? We all want a lifetime of love, support, and faith. But sometimes we need a little help.
In this 4-hour workshop, Rev. Clifford will introduce you to this groundbreaking and remarkably successful program for creating stronger, more secure relationships not only between partners, but between us and God. It will be grounded in the book, Created for Connection, by Dr. Sue Johnson, developer of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Kenneth Sanderfer, a leading EFT practitioner in the Christian community.
The presentation will help you get to the emotional underpinnings of your relationship by recognizing that you are attached to and dependent on your partner in much the same way that a child is on a parent. In that same way, we are dependent on the Heavenly Father, for nurturing, soothing, and protection. The way to enhance or save our relationships with each other and with God is to be Accessible, Responsive and Engaged and to reestablish safe emotional connections with God and with each other.*
In this input and discussion format, the leader will help you make the most of the “Hold Me Tight” approach of Dr. Sue Johnson to deepening your relationship. You will learn to see “Demon Dialogues”, the cycles of frustration and loneliness as conquerable and will learn proven ways to understand, repair and strengthen the bond with your spouse. It will point you to fuller use of the book so that you can explore and deepen your relationship after the weekend is done.
Each couple is required to purchase a copy (or 2) of Created for Connection by Johnson and Sanderfer and both are required to read it prior to the presentation. It is available in audio form through Audible. Coming to the workshop “cold” may make it difficult to understand and benefit from the presented material. The couples who put the most into reading and discussing together the questions at chapter endings will benefit the most!
Filled with Bible verses, inspiring real-life stories, and guidance, Created for Connection has the potential to help ensure a lifetime of love.
Rev Clifford is a marital therapist with Lutheran Counseling Network in Everett. His ministry of over 40 years has been as an individual, marital and group pastoral therapist.
